Hello there,

I'm so happy that you're here and am grateful for the opportunity to connect with you. My name is Dr. Rachel Moline (PhD, R. Psych) and I'm a Clinical Psychologist registered with the College of Alberta Psychologists.

I am the founder of Canmore Child & Family Psychology and also share my time working in the public sector. I am passionate about my role as a guide for children, adolescents, and their caregivers on their path to feeling better.

About

At the core of my practice in Child & Adolescent Clinical Psychology lies a deep specialization in child development and mental health needs. Over 8 years of dedicated training during my Master's and Doctoral programs, I honed my expertise before embarking on a rewarding journey in a pediatric hospital setting. My professional journey seamlessly weaves together insights gained from my public sector work, rigorous graduate training, and a residency at the Alberta Children’s Hospital

I adopt a family-centered and trauma-informed therapeutic approach. My core belief in empowering parents to actively support their child’s well-being underscores my practice. I have unwavering faith in individuals' innate capacity for growth, allowing me to remain empathetically present and hold confidence in others when faced with their vulnerability.  My approach is built on authenticity, curiosity, connection, and usefulness to my clients.

My clinical journey has spanned hospital, school, and community settings, focusing on pediatric psychological assessment and intervention. This breadth of experience covers a wide range of clinical presentations and treatment needs, such as depression, anxiety, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), trauma, eating disorders, chronic pain, and adjustment to illness, as well as addressing externalizing and behavioral challenges. I am particularly passionate about working with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

My practice is deeply rooted in evidence-based methodologies, and I integrate insights from neuroscience, mindfulness, and emotion-focused approaches into my work. My commitment to the field has led me to lead and publish research focusing on mindfulness for children's pain management, driving innovation in this essential area. Furthermore, my training and research in Health Psychology uniquely inform my clinical work with children and adolescents seeking support related to medical conditions and pain management.

Research

As a scientist-practitioner, research is core to my practice–whether it be staying current with and disseminating research, collaborating with the research community, or using it to inform my work with children and their caregivers

My Master's Thesis and Doctoral Dissertation research centered on mindfulness and helping youth with pain, with a focus on understanding child and caregiver co-regulation to facilitate coping, adopting a biopsychosocial lens. I've also authored research on feeding and eating disorders

Beyond the credentials

In guiding yoga, Tara Stiles states, “You are what the experience feels like.” This resonates with my experience of therapy, which involves a personal connection between you and I. I bring my whole self to my practice by integrating my life experiences, passions, and interests to foster authentic connections.

You'll often find me exploring and hiking in the mountains with my spirited canine companion, Flora. She’s half blue heeler, half pudelpointer, and filled with ALL the energy, brilliance, fierce loyalty, and love.

With over a decade of mindfulness practice, including silent meditation retreats, and a profound love of yoga, I've cultivated a keen interest in nurturing the mind-body connection, cultivating ease, and finding joy in daily life. Flora is a tremendous role model for this and a constant reminder of the value of practicing Wu Wei in my daily life. Wu Wei is a concept about effortless action–using the energy and effort that is needed, and dropping any extra force and tension to avoid unnecessary effort. Think of how animals effortlessly mobilize into action–without added strain, worrying thoughts, etc. Tim Ferriss said it best, “What would this look like if it were easy?”

Whether it be invigorating cold plunges in alpine lakes, enjoying saunas, foraging for berries and mushrooms, or grounding myself barefoot in mossy forests–nature is my constant inspiration. Currently, I'm translating my indoor rock climbing skills into the great Albertan outdoors and am steadily accumulating items from my never-ending gear wishlist for backcountry adventures.
